On November 18, 2025, The Wisdom Seat gathered for a community discussion exploring Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche's teaching on nowness from chapter 11 of Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior. Board President Bill Moriarty facilitated the conversation, inviting everyone to share their reflections, questions, and insights on this foundational teaching. This session was not recorded.
Trungpa Rinpoche writes: "The way to experience nowness is to realize that this very moment, this very point in your life, is always the occasion. So the consideration of where you are and what you are, on the spot, is very important. That is one reason that your family situation, your domestic everyday life, is so important. You should regard your home as sacred, as a golden opportunity to experience nowness." The discussion explored what it means to work with this teaching in our actual lives, in our homes, relationships, and daily routines, rather than waiting for some future moment when conditions might seem more ideal.
The Nowness chapter sits at the heart of the Shambhala teachings, connecting the practice of meditation with how we show up in the world.
